Quiet Work Behind the Scenes
Most of my work happens quietly, following up with suppliers, checking products, repacking, and making sure everything goes smoothly for my clients abroad. I don’t usually think much about these small tasks. For me, they’re simply part of the job, making sure things are done properly.
A Simple Task
A few weeks ago, one client contacted me because some of her products had shipping issues. She needed help sending everything to her country, but before that, we had to wait for all the parcels to arrive at my place.
The packages came one by one, slowly, over several weeks. Each time I received something, I took photos and videos to update her, just so she knew everything was safe and on track.
During that time, she was travelling, and later she texted me saying she would be in Guangzhou, so instead of sending the goods to her overseas, she asked me to deliver them to her hotel.
I repacked everything carefully and arranged the delivery. Once she confirmed she received everything, I thought that was it, task completed.
An Unexpected Coffee Invitation
But a few days later, she sent me a voice message before leaving the city:
“Would you like to meet for coffee before I go?”
I didn’t expect that. When we met, she was warm and appreciative, thanking me sincerely for my help, even saying she hadn’t expected someone to handle things with such care. She even brought two friends who were also looking for someone to help with product sourcing in China. We then had dinner together, chatting about business, shared stories, and laughed a lot.
It was one of those genuine, unexpected moments that remind me why I enjoy what I do.
What I Learned About Trust and Work
I don’t think of myself as a “middle person”, more like a quiet bridge that helps people connect and get things done across distance. What I’ve learned over the years is that trust isn’t built overnight. It grows through consistency, showing up, keeping promises, and caring enough to do the small things properly even when no one’s watching.
That’s the kind of reliability I try to bring into my work every day.
